This is a great park to visit with kids. We took a 3 year old and an 18 month olds and they had a blast digging for crystals and playing in the sand. The crystals were very ready to find and we very quickly had a large pile of them. We had the place to ourselves and I was shocked that there weren't more people taking advantage of this unique state park. The few staff members we encountered were very helpful, but the visitor's center was small and only had one bathroom.

The area appears very well maintained for a state park in the middle of nowhere Oklahoma. The lake is cool and the nearby salt plains are very interesting to see. The camping sites look fairly good too.

Walked at the dam.

No Charge for park entrance-

So much fun digging up crystals with the kids and their great grandmother. It would be really hard leave empty handed and there is no admission charge. If you are in the area you must check it out. Be sure to bring a couple jgs of water to rinse off your finds and yourself as the sand gets everywhere. Also like many state lands the facilities are minimal so be sure to bring everything you might need if you have a baby or young kids.

The park is fantastic. However you need to update the was site...we drove 4 hours so the kids could dig Crystles and the dig site was closed for winter...talk about two sad little girls.

Views were so beautiful.

If you plan on doing that activity plan on a couple hours - bring a shovel, comfort clothes, plenty of drinking water, snacks, sun hat and strong sun block. Water to rinse off and towels. Check blogs on line to help find crystals - "How To"

A few fast food places nearby and a grocery store in Cherokee.

So enjoyed our day at the State park. Several different locations for all the different activities. We dug for crystals - what a learning experience.

One day or one week - so worth the drive! GREAT DAY!

Then headed to Sandy Beach for a little dip.

It was extremely windy and sunny the day we went! Rinse your vehicle after leaving to remove Salt film.

Great family park.

At Park -Nice play grounds. Camp sites.
